MALAYSIA:::‘Majikan kekang kenaikan gaji ketika pasaran lembab’/ Most employers will only give 3-6 pct payhike this year

Kajian oleh firma pengrekrutan Hays Asia mendapati sebahagian besar majikan negara ini merancang untuk hanya menawarkan kenaikan gaji yang kecil dalam lingkungan tiga hingga enam peratus tahun ini, berikutan kebimbangan kelembapan ekonomi.

Pengarah Urusan Hays Asia, Christine Wright berkata, majikan tidak sanggup menawarkan gaji yang lebih tinggi walaupun menjangkakan kekurangan tenaga mahir di pasaran.
"Majikan beritahu kami yang mereka jangkakan kekurangan tanaga mahir menjadi cabaran tahun ini dan akan menambahkan tekanan ke atas gaji, kami juga jangkakan kebanyakan majikan akan berhati-hati menaikkan gaji pekerja.
"Untuk mengisi kekurangan itu, majikan Malaysia perlu memberi tumpuan yang lebih kepada strategi lain seperti latihan dan pembangunan dan perlu terbuka untuk merekrut dari luar negara," katanya dalam satu kenyataan hari ini.
Sehubungan itu, beliau menasihatkan pekerja untuk menitik-beratkan faedah lain, seperti pembangunan kerjaya jangka panjang daripada mengharapkan mendapat gaji lebih tinggi pada tahun ini.
Gaji Panduan 2016 Hays Asia yang dikeluarkan hari ini menunjukkan bahawa hanya 29 peratus daripada majikan merancang untuk menaikkan gaji pekerja mereka antara enam hingga 10 peratus.
Manakala jumlah majikan yang lebih kecil iaitu hanya 10 peratus yang akan menaikkan gaji pekerja mereka melebihi peratusan itu.
Kajian itu mendapati trend yang hampir sama dicatatakan di Hong Kong dan China.
Malah di China, kajian mendapati hampir 60 peratus majikan merancang untuk menaikkan gaji antara enam hingga 10 peratus.
Most Malaysian employers plan to only offer modest salary hikes of three to six percent this year, amid concerns of economic slowdown, a survey by recruitment firm Hays Asia found.
Hays Asia managing director Christine Wright said employers were unwilling to offer higher pay despite expecting skills shortage.
“Employers are telling us they expect skills shortage to be a challenge this year and while this will only add to salary pressures, we expect most employers to still keep salaries in check.
“To fill the shortages, Malaysian employers will need to focus more attention on other strategies such as training and development and remaining open to recruiting from overseas,” she said in a statement today.
As such, she advised employees to give more weight to other benefits, like long-term career development, before pitching for higher salary this year.
The Hays Asia Salary Guide 2016, released today, shows that only 29 percent of employers plan to raise salaries by six to 10 percent, while a much smaller 10 percent will raise salaries beyond that.
Similar trends persist in Hong Kong and China, the survey found.
This is modest compared to China, where 60 percent of employers plan to raise salaries by six to 10 percent.
