SINGAPORE:::Most foreign workers 'satisfied with S'pore'

SINGAPORE - Nine in 10 foreign workers are satisfied with working and living in Singapore, but there are still areas that can be improved, according to a new survey commissioned by the Migrant Workers' Centre and the Ministry of Manpower.

The survey also found that nine in 10 foreign workers would recommend Singapore as a place to work, citing good pay, good working and living conditions, and a sense of security.

ILO:::Global wage growth stagnates

The International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Global Wage Report 2014/2015 has warned of stalled wages in many countries and points to the labour market as a driver of inequality.

According to the report wage growth around the world slowed in 2013 to 2.0 per cent, compared to 2.2 per cent in 2012, and has yet to catch up to the pre-crisis rates of about 3.0 per cent.

It indicated that the modest growth in global wages was driven almost entirely by emerging G20 economies, where wages increased by 6.7 per cent in 2012 and 5.9 per cent in 2013.

MALAYSIA:::‘MAS Act not tackling real issues’

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has blasted the new Malaysian Airline System Bhd Act (MAS Act) which it said specifically targets the employees of the national carrier and have not addressed issues of lopsided contracts and mismanagement head on.

MTUC's Sarawak division secretary Andrew Lo pointed out that the MAS Act will take away hard earned retirement and termination benefits as well as bring the end of existing trade unions and associations representing the employees of MAS.
