The Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) will conduct “Ops Kesan” to
trace companies that are not registered with the organisation.
Speaking
to reporters at a press conference here after launching the three-day
State-level, 2013 SOCSO Safety and Health Week programme at SOCSO office
yesterday, SOCSO Board Member, Catherine Jikunan said that officers
from the organisation will conduct random raids around the state to
trace companies that have yet to register with the body.
Disclosing
this, she said that operation Ops Kesan will be ongoing throughout the
year as there are many companies operating without being registered.
“This
is important because if employees of unregistered company meet with an
accident, he or she will not be covered by insurance. And that would be
their loss,” she said.
Jikunan also said that SOCSO has launched
its latest programme of one-off free health screening for employees aged
40 and above by distributing vouchers to all employees of companies
registered to the organisation.
“Both employees and employers will
benefit from this programme as it can provide early detection of
diseases. Early detection means employers can save on their medical
expenses.
“So to those employers who have employees aged 40 and
above and have received the voucher, please allow them to take some time
off from work to go for a medical check-up at any SOCSO panel clinics.
“The
medical examination for women will include Mammogram to detect breast
cancer, so they will get two vouchers, one for the general check-up and
Mammogram,” explained Jikunan.
In the meantime, she disclosed
there are more and more employers registered with SOCSO, as many of them
got compounded by the organisation.
“We are also stepping up our
campaign and operation resulting in many employers being compounded and
subsequently they have registered with the organisation. In Kota
Kinabalu alone, there were a total of 142 employers compounded last year
if compared to 131 in 2011 and 93 in 2010,” she said.
