PERU: Hialpesa factory workers object to "sham" contracts

One of Peru's largest and most profitable textile and clothing companies, Hilandería de Algodón Peruana (Hialpesa) is alleged to have turned away workers who refused to sign "sham" employment contracts.

boston1_1114Nov. 4 — The notorious Veolia Corporation fired two leaders of Steelworkers Local 8751 on Nov 1. “You are discharged, effective immediately” read the letters to Grievance Chair Stevan Kirschbaum and Vice President Steve Gillis. Three other members of the Boston School Bus Union 5 — Recording Secretary Andre ­Francois and Stewards Garry Murchison and Richard Lynch — have also been suspended and threatened with firing. They are known collectively as the School Bus Union 5 (SBU 5).

The German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GACIC) signed an agreement with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to train and employ low-income Egyptian women on 3 November. The agreement is said to improve the skills of 1,000 Egyptian women and help them find jobs in the textile industry.
The agreement, which comes as part of the initiative for providing a suitable environment to activate the “Fundamental Principles and Work Rights for Women in Egypt”, was signed by Youssef Qaryouti, the head and representative of the ILO in Egypt, and the Forum of Training and Technical Education FORTE,  represented by the CEO OF GACIC Rainer Herret.
