YANGON—Myanmar will conduct its second national labour force survey, including the number of jobless, child labourers, self-employed and those working abroad, says the Labour Ministry.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Ministry of Labour and Employment will jointly carry out the labour force survey in a manner similar to the nationwide census.
“At present, we are starting the survey of labour strength activities. While collecting the survey, we will not have a specific order but will randomly survey the states, regions, districts as well as villages and wards,” said Aung Htay Win, director of the Ministry of Labour.
The data, such as the amount of real self-employed, the list of labourers working abroad, the number of jobless, and child labour statistics, will be collected during the survey.
The ILO signed an agreement on the National Labour Force Survey with the Labour Ministry on November 14 last year.
The government of Myanmar and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have signed a cooperation agreement to conduct the first comprehensive National Labour Force Survey (LFS) in the country since 1990.
The LFS will furbish data to formulate policies of critical importance to Myanmar, national employment policy including youth employment, child labour, forced labour and social security.
