Peru's Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Magali Silva said the new labor regime complies with all the agreements signed with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and ruled it out as a violation of young people’s rights in Peru.
"As a minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, it is my duty to ensure institutional arrangements across the country. This regulation has been implemented with all due respect to international agreements and accords inked between Peru and the ILO,” she pointed out.
She therefore rejected the criticism of the initiative launched by the government.
When highlighting the advantages of the law, Silva informed this new regime will benefit unemployed people aged 18 to 24, the most difficult age to get a stable job with benefits.
“This law is aimed at those who have no resources to be trained; and those who do will find a job as well. Let’s be honest and admit how many 18-24 year old citizens do not have a job right now,” she said.
Finally, Silva urged young people to reflect on the matter and study the law before protesting it.
