MH17: Crew member’s families to receive pension payment, says Socso

SEPANG: Families of the deceased crew members on board the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 will receive compensation from the Social Security Organisation (Socso) soon.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem said the next-of-kin of the 15 crew members will receive a one-off funeral management payout of RM1,500 and a minimum monthly invalidity pension of RM475.

“We are currently in talks with Malaysia Airlines to get details of the crew members.
"Families must verify their kinship to the deceased through identity cards and other means to prove that they are genuine claimants.
“We are also determining other 10 adult Malaysian passengers onboard the flight that are eligible for the payout,” he said in a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport here today.
Richard said the deceased dependents and families would also receive monthly pensions from the Socso through its invalidity pension scheme and employment injury scheme.
The injury scheme cover provides a minimum of RM30 to a maximum of RM88.50 a day pension, based on a quantum calculated from their monthly incomes.
The invalidity scheme cover allows dependents of the deceased to receive pensions based on 50 to 65 per cent of their average monthly income.
