SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) has urged the Selangor government to fulfil the pledge made by former mentri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to allocate a piece of land for a training centre for private workers in the state.
Its secretary-general N. Gopal Kishnam said the training centre had been long awaited by MTUC as it wanted to train and educate employees in employee leadership.
“MTUC has sent numerous letters to the Selangor government for the land but have yet to receive a favourable response. We hope to get some good news soon,” he told Bernama after attending a gathering to celebrate the Workers’ Day here yesterday.
In an address during Workers’ Day celebration on May 1, 2014, Abdul Khalid had said the state government was ready to allocate a piece of land in Selangor to MTUC to build its own training centre.
On another matter, Gopal Kishnam urged the government to provide a cost of living allowance of RM300 for private sector workers to cope with the rising cost of living which he claimed was due to the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
